3 short films and analysis

The walk

The context of the story is that a young woman leaves her friends to go explore and walk the city at night, I like this one as it portrays the experience of night walking seeing the lights the sounds and even the smells the camera shots are nice with a lot of tracking shots and close ups, my favourite part is when the girl looks up using a camera perspective of her looking at the glare of the city it might be night time, however, the city never sleeps there are always things going on, it also portrays loneliness as she is alone and can create fear not knowing what is going to happen or who might want to get to you, the film also shows the other side of the city as she walks down the subway to see the gangs and groups of kids all piled up like rats, I really like the establishing shots that show the city in its best there are some over the shoulder shots that show the other people like the girl walking home and going to other places just like the girl, the good use of blaring and light fading is good it’s not too much but not too little for what they were trying to get and it's realistic rather than seeing the darkness, and the last shot of the girl on the bridge with others as the city and the people start to wake up and get in to gear and do there day as the day repeats, and in the following 24 hrs she will be back to where she was.

A minute of silence

The context behind the short film is that the family apart from one of the children is deaf and that they speak in sign language and there are subtitles for those who have no idea what is happening like me and the grandpa is in coma and one of the children says that the other tried to kill him as he did stuff to them which no one knows about and he claims that everyone is blind even though he suffers from a disability himself, the emotion that comes off the sign language and reading the subtitles, and the camera angles are really nice as they show the family as one and splits off as the children have somthing to say to each other and for the camera to sanp back to the mother in the centre with her shocked expression, the set shows a normal family in a normal house hold with a caring family with a hidden secret, there are some specific objects and props that make the set better the grey pot signifeis a sacred place like they are foucusing all of there enrgy to the pot to help there grandad get well. and how the film ends with the mother looking shocked at the end as she has seen it all is amazing and well thought out as she is very upset even as her children are saying what is wrong with there grandad in times of need and close bonds to the family.

open the box

The context behind this is that a girl goes to her father asks him to open a box then asks him to pull out the knife and proceed to kill himself and put the knife back then she says how did you kill your self if your already dead then it ends this is really emotional as it gives an insight to her life and she perfectly says kill your self and changes tone and everything the camera angles are good and show a conversation for both people and you can feel the pain she goes through and a long distant one it is, the short film is depicted in a nice house in the day and the setting doesnt show one but how the actor is feeling and trying to portray and this is what I like about it how it doesnt depict anything about what is said or what is happening it could have been done at night or in a poor house, the film also shows how people deal with this situation and shows how people can say what they want and no remorse is shown and the actor is amazing at this and the transistion of what is said.

Change of hands Induction task

Change of hands By Brent, Recce, Josh

the task was to work in a group of 3 or 4 and using a list of camera shots to make a short clip showing an exchange of something with value the task was to use various camera angle and to provide a story using the emotion of the shots and the good use of the camera, me and Recce were the ones to be used as actors whilst Josh was behind the camera, i was the one who drew the story board and directed the short film whilst being a actor in the making as well, the film started off with an establishing shot of the the area we were using this was to show the small space we had but also to pull off a space where a deal of some sort could happen, we then had t he dealer come in with the package we made it so he was very untrustworthy and dodgy, then we had the victim who would to later find out hes been scammed to walk on not looking suspicious and pick up the package and walk off the camera to show the confidence and legitimacy of the package, we then had a scene where the victim looks in the package to see there is no item and using close ups and medium shots to show the annoyance and emotion as they stare into the scammers eyes, and to end the film we had it so the scammer had a first person shot of him running away to show his fear as he know hes been caught.

Induction task photo connotations

Connotations in photos Induction task
Strength
To portray this I chose strength in numbers and used more than one car to show that even though they are easy to avoid on their own a pack of cars and cars everywhere littered across the town is strong

Poverty
For this I used a trash can to indicate what poverty looks like a mess and no structure to a life or a well being it just all has thrown into one place and left to rot, poverty is everywhere and we are just left to let it get on with its life while we struggle with our own.

Love
For this I used food as a large population would agree food is what can make us get better and feel amazing this was portrayed in what we desire and need to survive on a daily basis and sometimes we can’t associate love with friendship or other people as people can let us down

Fear
For this I used the road to portray fear as this is where in the eyes of the road users it can be life or death if they chose, the road can also portray fear in other ways as well like the person crossing can choose when to cross or even how fast and this can also spark fear into others.
Desire
For this I used a closed square with no exit to portray the desire to get out and explore the world  as you don’t know whats waiting for you or who is.

Danger
For this I used a pin to potray that its dangerous as it can hurt if you get to close but wont strike if you acknowledge that its dangerous but not leathel unless you allow it to be.

Wealth
For this I used the bank to portray where the towns wealth is and where business and bystanders can come to withdraw or deposit large amounts of money if they chose the bank shows where you can go to get large amounts of money legally or illegally.

Weakness
For this I used elderly people to portray how weak our species can be as time goes on our bodies get weaker and slowly break down until we eventually die and lay to rest in a casket where our bodies rot for time.

Loneliness
For this I used a picture of me alone to indicate that loneliness can kill but also ruin people as it makes you feel not wanted and pushes you away from society and the ones that care about you.

Friendship
To show this I used a group of people to show friends this is a good way even if they arn't friends being together in a group can mean a lot to the right people.

Purity
For this I used water to show purity it has been processed to get rid of the bad bits that nobody wants it’s the pureist thing around and is easy to find the water is made in bulk so that it shows purity can be made easily but you just need some help.

Greed
For this I used loads of cars to show that too much of something is bad for you havung to many cars is bad not only for the wellbeing on hummanity but also people will want what fortune you have

Induction task film review: zombie land

Zombie land (2009)

Synopsis Woody Harrelson, Jessie Eisenburg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin star in a zombie apocalypse in southern western united states where they have to learn to survive the hordes of zombies and regain trust in humanity Jessie follows a set of rules which he adds to along the way and through his travels he meets the rest of the crew which then he falls in love with Emma and has to decide to forget her or nearly die trying to get her back.
Review
the plot of the story is that an infection has spread and we come to start of the story 2 months after the infection strain of mad cow disease, which then spread all across of America making citizens into mad vicious zombies that crave the living and cannot be stopped by any force other than destroying the brain with whatever you have at your disposal.
The film is a horror comedy and is amazing to any zombie fan as it has gore violence and zombie decapitation and it is my almost favourite film of my life so far, the main protagonist colombus played by Jessie is a thin white male who is afraid and shows weakness, he then partners with Tallahessee who is played by Woody and he is a strong figure with a story about his son which to stay (strong) he says it’s his puppy so the others won’t see him as emotional at the time, they then go to a local supermarket where they meet Whichita and little rock played by Emma and Abigial which at first site they take Colombus and Tallahessee car keys and guns and are left alone to survive and figure out what to do chase after a girl he likes and put his life on the line or say goodbye and survive as they are.
The film is conventional and sticks to 1h 28 minute time which most films are and about these days, there are a few scenes where the film feels drawn out and used to fill space like when they are looking for a house to stay in and I found that if you get bored easily you can feel drifted away and lose what’s happening in the story, and for some parts of the film it was unclear how long they took to get to places or how many days they had been searching,

The film’s director Ruben Fleischer done an amazing job and in my opinion it is one of the best zombie films to this day it has replay ability and keeps true to what we know about the zombie/horror genre.
